The end of the school year is truly one of the toughest times for teachers. With so much to do, it feels impossible to think of next year. However, if you do nothing, you will regret it come September. Read here for teacher planning tips to prepare for the next school year with minimal stress.

Summer’s Coming!
So what are your summer plans? I am hoping that you will enjoy some much-needed downtime. I already have my summer beach reads ready to go. Even though I am yearning to unwind, I still can’t help the “planner” in me. As soon as I’m relaxed, my mind will wander to the upcoming year. Plan on planning, but don’t go crazy. A few simple ideas will do the trick.
Teacher Planning for the Next School Year with Minimal Stress
- Get your classroom decor in order. Think about your theme and gather any supplies you will need. This way, all you have to do is set it up when you arrive to school. If your school year isn’t over, put everything in a box and store it away. Click here for free patriotic bulletin board letters.
- Plan your first two days. These are typically the most difficult because it is not usually a regular schedule. If students won’t have their devices yet, be sure to have anything you want printed ready to go. Click here for a free back to school parts of speech pixel activity.
- Look for meaningful activities. It’s really not enough for a middle school student to do the same old icebreaker. Jamboards are a great way to go to get some lively discussion going.
- Get any forms together that you will want for the year. This includes class lists, planning templates, and student checklists.
- Have at least a rough outline of your first unit. This will take a lot of pressure off if you have a general idea of the direction you wish to go.
- Get your back-to-school bulletin board ready now! Here’s a super easy idea: Use this collaborative coloring poster. The message is “Words of Wisdom from the Class of 2024”. Kids color, write their advice for next year’s students, and you’re all set. It’s the perfect end-of-year activity!
